What Is an Independent Technology Advisor?
By Cloud Concepts · Published October 22, 2026
An independent Technology Advisor helps a business evaluate and buy services from multiple technology providers. Instead of starting with a single vendor's product catalog, the advisor starts with the business's requirements: what needs to work, where it needs to work, what it should cost, and who will support it.
At Cloud Concepts, that includes communications, business internet, contact center, cloud, SD-WAN, and cybersecurity services. We help customers compare options, coordinate proposals, negotiate pricing, and manage implementation.
What does the process look like?
First, define the problem. Are calls being missed? Are locations losing connectivity? Is an old contract approaching renewal? Then document users, locations, integrations, reliability needs, timelines, and budget. Those requirements guide the provider shortlist.
Next, compare complete proposals. A low monthly price may exclude equipment, installation, advanced features, usage, or support. Contract length, renewal terms, cancellation provisions, and migration responsibilities also matter. An advisor helps bring these differences into view before you choose.
After selection, implementation needs coordination. Number porting, circuit delivery, equipment, training, and vendor responsibilities can involve several teams. Cloud Concepts includes project management to help organize that work.
How is Cloud Concepts paid?
Your selected provider compensates us. You contract directly with that provider, and our sourcing and project management services come at no cost to you, without a markup. We can often negotiate better pricing than buying direct, although a particular savings amount is never guaranteed.
How is this different from an MSP?
An MSP typically operates or supports parts of your IT environment. A Technology Advisor focuses on evaluating and sourcing provider services. The roles can complement one another: your existing IT team or MSP can participate in requirements, technical reviews, and implementation.
When should you involve an advisor?
Before a renewal, relocation, expansion, phone-system replacement, or major provider change. Earlier involvement gives you more room to compare options and plan the transition.
